Have you considered that…

The answers to the current mess do not exist in humanistic philosophies and especially not in politics or protest or previous patterns?

Nor do they exist in “religiously” asking God to “bless this mess”, and then go on with the status quo – hoping that it will all disappear… somehow!

Let’s be who we are, as spiritual warriors in Christ, and take this battle onto higher ground! The adversary and accuser is spiritual, hateful toward God and man, cunning, sometimes even charming, a pathological liar and father of lies and all liars, real, and has been a contender  for and pretender to the throne of the hearts of men since the beginning. This agenda obviously has been in place for a very long time through the complicity of men.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:10-18)

IF my people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Let’s get down to business, Jesus Christ loving people, understanding what it actually means to be “called by My name”. Let’s stop “taking His name in vain” by “playing church” but not being His holy Body on Earth, called out and set apart for His purposes.

Prayer for the Christian is meant to be a way of life, not something everybody turns to when their back is against the wall. “In the name of Jesus” means a lot more than something tacked onto the end of a prayer almost as a sort of charm or incantation.

It is imperative that every blood ransomed, redeemed by Jesus Christ soul to be on his or her knees with the Good Book open, and perpetual prayer on his heart, mind, and lips – with spiritual ears open to discern the Still Small Voice of the Holy Spirit, answering the question, “Lord, what would You have me do? Where do I fit into this?”  Be as Jesus – “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.” (John 5:19)

The time has come that there can be no “advice” from any other than the Almighty Himself. “Ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking…” Then when the answer comes, do it, and let no one talk you out of it.

Something Someone Needs To Hear

Someone, whoever you are, this is for you:

Sometimes there are people in your life who are running their game, & they get very good at it. They get you to buy in – often by eliciting sympathy. “Feel sorry for me. Take up my cause. So and So is wronging me.” Duplicitous as a Clinton $3 bill. Track record of putting others on a trail of tears using this tactic. Pray for discernment and direction.

Eventually, in spite of efforts to make you believe otherwise, the ruse gets exposed. It always does. You’ve been lied to, or at best been fed half truths. It’s the set up to get your buy in.

In the end, it all boils down to knowing when it’s time to hold ’em and when it’s time to fold ’em. Your life needs to go on, and if someone’s sucking it away because they don’t actually have a life or a real identity, but have a tendency to leach on and draw from yours, with a history of the same, it’s time to draw the line, and say, “You don’t get to come across this line anymore!“

Don’t feel bad about it.

And if you’re a praying person, the confirmation of your suspicions is the answer to your prayers – the signal that you don’t need to accept this anymore. You may have been, or stand the chance to be, host to a parasite, their next stop – if they can pull it off.

Or you may have the gnawing sense (that does not go away) that you simply need to cut the ties with this person.

Very often sensitive, caring people struggle with this – their greatest strength – compassion – can also be their Achilles’ Heel because they don’t have an “off” button for shutting it down. They get conned into things, taken advantage of. They can easily become enablers to whatever the game is.

Your “messages” (to the rest of the world, the situation in question, and to yourself) need to change from, “I’ll do everything possible for you,” to “I’ll do what I can.” And let it go with that. Be in the integrity of that. You are not infinite God; you are finite you.

Trust in God. Eventually you will see things, and hear that Still Small Voice saying, “Time to fold ’em.”

Then get up and step away from the table.

And don’t look back.

Sometimes the voyage overtakes us,
casting us beyond our will
upon a far away and unknown shore,
where we find upon arriving,
it is a pleasant place and more.
Yet all too soon arrives a day
when we must, with the winds and tides,
once more cast off and sail away.
Many the twists and turns of life
along this labyrinthine flow,
where we would yearn to fly,
yet Something Deeper whispers to our heart,
You shall not go, you shall not go.
For there is much more here
you’re meant to see, to understand, to know.

Are Your Dots In A Row?

We would all like to have the big picture these days about what on earth is really going on. So many of us set out to connect the dots, and chart our course accordingly. We have access to all sorts of information via the internet providing various claims on reality. Consequently there are many resources who claim to have the dots connected – experiencers of various realities, “experts”, the news, alternative views and news, conspiracies, extra terrestrial contactees, and the like. We think that because we have access to all this information that it ought to really be a snap to connect the dots. However many claims conflict with the rest.

One problem with this approach to connecting the dots is that it forms a distorted picture which has little to do with what is actually unfolding as the Higher Reality of divine plan and order – what has been needed and has been commencing from the beginning.

At the outset, I would offer that what is emerging, as “Real Reality” that will stand, is wrought by the hand of the Lord. All other bets are off. He’s Still in charge, always has been, always will be. Other appearances can be deceiving. Therefore, fear not!

How do we know what this emergence will look like? There is only one way to find out, and that is by accessing the Mind of God on the matter. He tells us clearly through His revealed word, however, that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours, as heaven is immeasurably higher than earth. (Isaiah 55:8,9)

Does this make the thoughts of God forbidden or inaccessible, as we’ve been given the impression by some “voices”? No. Jesus Himself invites us to continually ask, seek, and knock, and what is needed will be opened to us. St. James explains that God eagerly grants His wisdom to those who ask, while St. Paul admonishes us to put on the Mind of Christ, Who has promised that the Holy Spirit will be given to those who ask. The Holy Spirit will lead those who ask into all truth, and will bring to mind all that Jesus has taught us!

How much clearer can it be that God wishes for a “celestial mind meld” with us wherein He can reveal His thoughts and His plan to His people? He wants to guide successfully the ships of our lives on our assigned voyage by fixing our minds on the Daystar from on High! Thus we need to be fully attentive to His revealed Word through the Scripture – which always reveals Jesus – and keep an open hailing frequency to the Still Small Voice of the Holy Spirit within. “My sheep hear My voice”, He reminds us. (John 10:27)

When we seek Him alone, then any dots we’ve been trying to connect (when necessary) become “visible” to our perception with God’s numbers attached (a figure of speech of course), pointing us to the next and the next, just like connect-the-dots coloring books in which children delight.

However, what may emerge may not be according to our personal notions, agendas, or previous opinions about the direction and formation of the big picture. God’s thoughts reveal to us a brighter and higher purpose – even within the current circumstances where we find ourselves. This alleviates many fears, anxieties, or hopelessness which grips so many minds today. It’s imperative that we seek fully – with a pure heart – the Mind of Christ and the high thoughts and perspectives of the Lord.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 KJV)

The end revealed, perhaps even while enduring much tribulation, is intended to bring forth joy, beauty, and the assurance of an enduring reality where we know that we are never separated from the love of God. For us to be one with Him has been His intention since the beginning!

I’m reminded of the refrain from an old and favorite hymn:

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”

The face of Jesus alone – this is where we need to fix our attention and focus. We then come to understand that every cross is followed by a resurrection! This is the Truth that lines up all the dots as it plots the course for our life. The face of Jesus – the Daystar whereby we chart our course, the bright Sun into which we can and must gaze! He will never blind us. In fact, when we do that, we can see more clearly than ever, and we can see forever.

To God be the glory!

Peace, Be Still

Mark 4:39. “And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

We’re all in the same boat, you might say. In many ways it resembles the boat occupied by the disciples  when this event took place.

At the beginning of this narrative Jesus extends a rather interesting invitation. Mark 4:35 says, “Let us pass over unto the other side.” As I read this, it occurred to me that this is exactly what we’re doing here in life’s little voyage, is it not. We’re passing over to the other side! Indeed we’re in the boat, are we not? All of us are on this voyage! We’re passing over from “death” into “life”, from the finite into infinity.

We observe the approach to this of the disciples when the tempest arose. They are panicking. And then there was Jesus’ approach: He’s in the stern, asleep on a pillow! They awaken Him in the midst of this fierce gale, with accusations. “Master, carest Thou not that we perish?”

Naturally focused on their fear of a foreseeable future, they approach Him. He awakens, rebukes the wind, and commands the sea, “Peace, be still.” He is not angry with His disciples for awakening Him, but chides them for their lack of faith and their fear.

It seems like a hard lesson, but is there something in it which the Prince of Peace wishes us to see, as we pass over unto the other side?

Fear often focuses on a worst case scenario for the future. Fear is not an orientation in the present. Jesus, being very much in command and at rest at the back of the boat on a pillow, puts us in mind of Psalm 4:4 – the invitation to be at rest while communing with God upon our beds, and to be still. Even in this.

The One Who was able to be still in the midst of the gale was also able to command the winds and the sea to also be still! This would require a realization that we are not separate from God’s Presence and Peace – that He is always available to us as we simply choose to be there in Jesus.

There are plenty of “storms” especially at this time of year, seemingly demanding our attention and focus. The weather is only one of them. But in coming into our Father’s almighty Presence as one in Jesus, who is quietly resting on His pillow, we do so in  both confidence and quiet and in full assurance that this “crossing over” is going to have the very best of outcomes – according to His good, gracious, and perfect will for us.

It is in this attitude that we welcome the Prince of Peace, the Word made flesh Who dwells among us, and we behold His glory, as we pray, “O come, O come, Emmanuel!”

Into The Silence Part 9

Be Still And Know.

Psalm 46:9,10a. “He maketh wars to cease until the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; He burneth the chariot in fire. Be still and know that I am God…”

Wars, weapons, weeping, waste of Human life and liveliness. These are the signs of conflict. And all the specialists in “conflict resolution” never reveal the real source of the conflicts, either personal or political, to an end.

From whence comes the conflict?

The source of all conflict lies within the fact that many, many Souls are at conflict with God their Creator in the first place. They are in an illusion of separation from Him, at least in awareness and experience. People against God Who is not “against” anyone, people against one another – individually or in groups, people against this or against that. Everything on this planet is approached in terms of conflict! We have wars on drugs, wars on cancer, wars on poverty, wars on everything you can think of – and now we even have a war on terror… Say what?!

It boils down to the fact that fighting fire with fire only begets more fire. Fire must be put our by “Water” – a daily washing of regeneration by the Holy Spirit! That is best approached by a practice of God’s Presence through prayer. It means going into that closet with Him, being in His Presence, “showing up for work” – the work of Grace as His Holy Spirit applies it to us.

Could we ever come to terms with how utterly counterproductive this is in terms of even such things as the forward movement of Human progress, creativity, and the ability to envision anything better or more beautiful?  Dare we to look at the fact that we’re the ones who’ve been sacked? What’s the solution? Do we want the solution offered to us by God, or are we so used to the ghetto of conflict that it never crosses our mind that we can move out of conflict and into peace?

I would offer this: What if we were to be still long enough to actually experience the peace that passes all understanding, through the sublimating grace of God’s Presence, as we come to Him in prayer, and to realize that God alone is the end of all conflict?

What if it is possible to be still and know this?

I would say that it is, since this is exactly what our Lord invites us to do – to be still and know that I am God! He never asks us to do anything that is not possible, and with God all things are possible which are according to His will!

This may be the best gift we could offer ourself this Christmas – the gift of being still and knowing that God IS, and that He is the end of all conflict, as that cessation of hostilities ends beginning with our renewed connection with Him! Such prayer does not even require words, only a showing up to spend time with Him, and even to listen.

We can enter that still place of prayer to experience our reconciliation with Him, provided by our Redeemer, our Lord and Champion, Jesus Christ – the One Who ends all conflict at its source.
