Time And Truth

Time marches on, so they say.
Do we march simply in lockstep with the times,
or to the beat of the truthful drummer?
Say you, what has truth to do with creativity?
Oh, mercy me! Can’t you see?
Without His Truth
We can never be free!
If we are not free,
then in His image we cannot be.

Creativity requires above all
merging with and merging into Truth,
but not just any truth,
not “my” truth, nor “your” truth –
which is no truth at all
For it was this that caused our fall –
that we chose whatever was right in our eyes,
spurred on by the adversary of our souls, the father of lies!

Tumbling from perfection
dis-aligned with God,
into fragmentation, dis-ease, dismemberment, and sin:
that state of without-ness within!
Without His protection,
Without His Love,
Cut off from expanding and exploring the fullness
of what we once were –
the perfect coming forth from Creator Father God!
No mere ascending apes rising from slime and sod.

And one thing’s sure –
that only to abide in His word,
within and without,
by His Holy Spirit inwardly heard,
shall we be restored and be set free
To bear the image and likeness of His full on creativity!
By Truth we are set free from strife,
for His Truth alone is Spirit and Life!

The Light Of Truth

Reminiscences Among The Holly Daze…

Just because truth doesn’t always make us “feel good” does not mean it isn’t “positive”.
There’s a popular notion out there that truth only makes us feel good. This is wrong. Dead wrong. It may make us angry. It may make us want to ask questions that take us beneath the surface of things to some real answers. And when we deal with it, then we may be able feel good, but not until it’s been resolved. Truth’s light often brings considerable heat.

Anyone who isn’t refusing or refuting truth and is open to it will recognize truth when it stares him in the face.

Truth stands on its own. Truth is what is. It is naked reality. And it needs to be acknowledged whether it is favorable in our own eyes or to our senses, to political correctness, or as to whether it is challenging us on the deep interior of our being where things may need to change, or it confronts us from the outer world which is often a sad reflection of the inner states of men that have created it.

Truth may bring the clarion call to attention of certain things that need to change. It may say, “I’m not an option nor an opinion.” It may tap us on the shoulder and ask us to actually involve ourselves in addressing the needed changes at their source. Certainly we can ignore it and walk away, but when that happens we’re not in the truth but in denial of reality. (And oh by the way, denial that anything is real is a big deception these days. But that certainly makes it easier to ignore truth.)

Truth has a way of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable. This is one of its great purposes. It rousts us out of our little status quo comfort zones like nothing else.

Yeah, I get it – no one wants to hear this stuff, especially while we’re hypnotized by the “holly-daze”. After all, life’s all about making ourselves feel good, right? Tis the season to be jolly. On the surface. But you can bet your bottom dollar that while everyone is distracted by all the merry making that there are forces at work that are always about the business of seeing to their own advantages at such opportune times, at your expense. Forces that, by not being attentive to truth, we’ve all to some degree become complicit in allowing to establish a foothold of evil in this world.

People like to quote the idea that the truth will set you free. But were you aware that this saying has a very specific context? “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32,33).

No, it’s not just any old relative truth that makes us free – mere human perspectives, but rather the naked light of full spectrum truth which begins with the teachings and claims of Jesus Christ. Remember, He was speaking to religious people in this account, those who even “believed on Him”, people who thought they were “in” because they were good members of the local synagogue. (How very “spiritual” they must have considered themselves!)

He’s pointing to radical truth here, and how to lay hold of it. This alone makes men free. It’s not about “my” truth, or “your” truth – which are mere opinions – but about the ever expanding Jesus Christ Wisdom-Truth available to all who sincerely and fearlessly seek it, which begins through abiding in His basic teachings and growing in ever expanding understanding of them. There is no compromising this matter.

Many also like to make the claim that Jesus is simply one world teacher among many, but I can just about guarantee that such claims are made by people who have never even bothered to explore His teaching or His claims, especially up against the others. They have been instead lulled to sleep by New Age talking heads when it comes to this belief, which is as much a belief as anything they like to criticize. (I used to be part of this kind of thinking, even when I should have known better…)

This time of year everybody likes to talk about the “coming of the light”. But the fact is that the Light is also called the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He was a real person, not just a symbol of some nebulous abstraction… the Truth who calls out to us, “Come, follow Me.”

Here are a few scripture passages which will challenge the views of relative truth. We do well to ponder them these days. We do well to ponder and pray about them in their context. Deeply and openly.

“Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”…” (John 18:13 KJV)

“We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. (1 John 4:6 KJV)

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:13 KJV).

“…I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. ” (1 John 2:20-24 NASB)

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44 NASB)

I find it fascinating that these are all attributed to John, the beloved Apostle closest to the Lord Jesus. Could uncompromising truth have been one of the greater reasons for that closeness and commonality?

Are Your Dots In A Row?

We would all like to have the big picture these days about what on earth is really going on. So many of us set out to connect the dots, and chart our course accordingly. We have access to all sorts of information via the internet providing various claims on reality. Consequently there are many resources who claim to have the dots connected – experiencers of various realities, “experts”, the news, alternative views and news, conspiracies, extra terrestrial contactees, and the like. We think that because we have access to all this information that it ought to really be a snap to connect the dots. However many claims conflict with the rest.

One problem with this approach to connecting the dots is that it forms a distorted picture which has little to do with what is actually unfolding as the Higher Reality of divine plan and order – what has been needed and has been commencing from the beginning.

At the outset, I would offer that what is emerging, as “Real Reality” that will stand, is wrought by the hand of the Lord. All other bets are off. He’s Still in charge, always has been, always will be. Other appearances can be deceiving. Therefore, fear not!

How do we know what this emergence will look like? There is only one way to find out, and that is by accessing the Mind of God on the matter. He tells us clearly through His revealed word, however, that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours, as heaven is immeasurably higher than earth. (Isaiah 55:8,9)

Does this make the thoughts of God forbidden or inaccessible, as we’ve been given the impression by some “voices”? No. Jesus Himself invites us to continually ask, seek, and knock, and what is needed will be opened to us. St. James explains that God eagerly grants His wisdom to those who ask, while St. Paul admonishes us to put on the Mind of Christ, Who has promised that the Holy Spirit will be given to those who ask. The Holy Spirit will lead those who ask into all truth, and will bring to mind all that Jesus has taught us!

How much clearer can it be that God wishes for a “celestial mind meld” with us wherein He can reveal His thoughts and His plan to His people? He wants to guide successfully the ships of our lives on our assigned voyage by fixing our minds on the Daystar from on High! Thus we need to be fully attentive to His revealed Word through the Scripture – which always reveals Jesus – and keep an open hailing frequency to the Still Small Voice of the Holy Spirit within. “My sheep hear My voice”, He reminds us. (John 10:27)

When we seek Him alone, then any dots we’ve been trying to connect (when necessary) become “visible” to our perception with God’s numbers attached (a figure of speech of course), pointing us to the next and the next, just like connect-the-dots coloring books in which children delight.

However, what may emerge may not be according to our personal notions, agendas, or previous opinions about the direction and formation of the big picture. God’s thoughts reveal to us a brighter and higher purpose – even within the current circumstances where we find ourselves. This alleviates many fears, anxieties, or hopelessness which grips so many minds today. It’s imperative that we seek fully – with a pure heart – the Mind of Christ and the high thoughts and perspectives of the Lord.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 KJV)

The end revealed, perhaps even while enduring much tribulation, is intended to bring forth joy, beauty, and the assurance of an enduring reality where we know that we are never separated from the love of God. For us to be one with Him has been His intention since the beginning!

I’m reminded of the refrain from an old and favorite hymn:

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”

The face of Jesus alone – this is where we need to fix our attention and focus. We then come to understand that every cross is followed by a resurrection! This is the Truth that lines up all the dots as it plots the course for our life. The face of Jesus – the Daystar whereby we chart our course, the bright Sun into which we can and must gaze! He will never blind us. In fact, when we do that, we can see more clearly than ever, and we can see forever.

To God be the glory!

Just a few remarks concerning a post I took down a few moments ago. I think it reflected some fear that what is posted may be picked up and used in ways we never intended, especially in a “free” venue. In a time when we need to be fearless and to stand up for the Truth, it’s no time to hold back. It is in fact time to push forward. And it’s especially not time to play pretend that it doesn’t exist, or – if I don’t think about it, it will go away.

Yes, it’s good to be positive, and always “keep on the sunny side”. However, there are things that need to be addressed that may not always “feel” positive, and that is a part of these apocalyptic times we live in – that the dark gets revealed as well, and we must stop pretending that evil doesn’t exist.

After all, the cycle of a day is not all sunshine. There is also an equal amount or varying amounts of darkness, and this is simply a fact of life.

Everyone has a piece of the puzzle to bring to the table of the Big Picture, and if we don’t show up at the table and bring along our piece of that puzzle, then the picture cannot be complete. So we press on, whether someone dislikes us or likes us, stand we must.

Yes, no matter what the cost.

It’s a part of what is, not what we wish it may be. And if there is no “bad news”, then there is no reason for the Good News of the Gospel. If you dare to look, you will see that there is every need for the Gospel and for truth on many levels – especially now. Perhaps it only needs to be presented in its 21st century context. Each day more and more comes to the surface.

We press on!

Stay tuned…
