Just Metaphysics, Or The Metaphysics Of Jesus Christ?

What about Christian scriptures – are they a matter of many you-get-to-pick interpretations, or revelation? Lets’ take a look:

As a practicing Christian for nearly 40 years, yet also having been a student of metaphysics in times past, I disagree with major (but sometimes subtle) points concerning Christian Scripture, often embraced in “metaphysical” circles, who love to “interpret” the Bible without the understanding of the One which Scripture reveals. At the outset, I would offer that the Bible is not for interpretation but rather revelation – to reveal, to disclose, make known something or Someone.

The claim is that there is this interpretation and that interpretation, based on the thinking of men. So you can pick and choose what you like, based on interpretation slanted by someone’s agendas, rather than going to the Scriptures as The revelation of the Person of Jesus Christ. It’s not about “interpretation” for the sake of whatever is politically or socially correct, or what feels good, or a book about “how to” be personally successful by naming, claiming, and framing what you think will make you happy. That is cherry picking at its finest, by “seekers” who don’t know any better.

The question is, what are they seeking – an interpretation of their truth, or THE Truth that sets us free?

What Jesus Himself also says, as He speaks to the religious “experts” and “interpreters” of His day, was that “you search the Scriptures because you think you find life in them, but they testify of Me.” (John 5:39)

There are many people now twisting the Scriptures to their own ends, both inside and outside the churches, so that they can do as they please. There is no understanding or acceptance of the need to be saved, about the redemption through Jesus Christ, or its implications for mankind.

This is simply not a part of the program for so many people who are into “metaphysics” or what they like to call “spirituality”. The preference in these circles seems to be personal power and/or the attainment of what feels good. A birthright has been exchanged for a bowl of porridge!

“Interpretation” must not be confused with the Truth as the Person Jesus Christ, Who He was and is, or that both His teaching and His redemptive work mean freedom from sin, worldliness, and the prince of this world. It implies and makes available complete restoration of ourselves to God, through the work of Christ applied by the Holy Spirit.

It doesn’t get anymore “metaphysical” than that – the Most High impacting the scene of the seen from the unseen!

Truth be told, Jesus’ metaphysics is far more real and powerful than any involvement in personal magic and so-called empowerment, which deceives you into thinking you’re some sort of “god”. (God help all such “gods”!) This is religion that appeals to the ego and inflates it. That kind of thinking is nothing but a sugar-coated trap that deceives. It keeps you consuming spiritual porridge when you could feat on the Bread of Life, the Manna from Above!

Again, it is Jesus Himself Who challenges us about truth, that IF we abide in His word, we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. (John 8:31,32) We do well to pick up this idea and start with His basic teachings, recorded in the written Word, which have a “metaphysical” way of working on the heart, mind, and soul – from the inside out, the spiritual impacting the manifest life. Eventually it is revealed to our heart and mind that His claims are real, and that it is the most important truth that can be made known to us. He says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life!” (John 14:6)

Then there is the matter of the HOLY Spirit, not just “spirit” – “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come”, straight from the Mind of God, Source of Truth! (John 16:13)

When we approach Scripture, as in actually reading it, studying it, and pondering it ourselves, it’s wise to ask the Holy Spirit for direction, to go to the Source, to be informed by the Mind of Christ – not the interpretations of men. This is the one Mind, the Infinite Mind of Christ, Who alone may be trusted, above all others, Whose Voice is clear and lays to rest once and for all all the divisive nonsense arising out of the minds of men, or worse yet the doctrines of demons.

There is so much wisdom in Jesus Christ Himself, revealed by the Scriptures. So it’s important to know Him first above all else. Knowing Jesus Christ, knowing God, is eternal life! (John 17:3)

Personally I know no better place to be than in a one-on-one with Jesus: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1) This is where we go to meet with Him, to know the Truth Who sets us free from all other delusions and deceptions. This alone is the fortress of spiritual protection and direction!

This is where we want to live, to dwell, to abide! This is the Holy of Holies made available by the Blood of the Lamb, where we come to understand “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20).

Here, in this secret place of the Most High, we come to understand that “… God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7)

It doesn’t get anymore “metaphysical” or better than this! Gory to God our Father Who made this all possible through His Fullness in Jesus Christ, and Who brought it “down to earth” by His Holy Spirit to dwell in any who will invite Him in! Amen.
