Long, long ago in a Reality not far from this one, as Realities go, something very unusual was happening, signifying an incredible new day. For the perfect, whole and Un-fallen Reality had not impacted the imperfect, fragmented, and Fallen Reality… yet.
But the time had come.
A Star was, is, and shall be manifest – that is, it makes its entrance into other Realities which are seriously in need of its light, healing, and restoration. And so it was on many levels. And so it is. And so shall it ever be.
The story of this particular Star, as we focus on it, comes about in four different “stages”:
- The prophecy
- The breakthrough into this reality
- The process within us
- The culmination.
Dear reader, I’m not sure how many words it will take to share this with you. Nor am I sure that you will agree with my perspectives on all of it. I’m not expecting you to. I think that this Star seeks to reveal Himself to each of us in His own way, and in a way that we can understand and identify with personally. He’s always been very good at that.
There’s much conjecture as to the nature of the Star seen by the Wise Men who came bearing gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the Christ Child so very long ago. Whatever it may have been as a spectacular object or objects in space, astrological or astronomical configuration, or other event in that night sky so long ago, what’s most important is what it points us to here and now.
Part 1 The Prophecy:
Let’s begin with the prophecy specific to this Star. Certainly there are many prophecies concerning the arrival of Jesus Christ around 2000 years ago, but let us draw our attention to this particular one found in Numbers 24:17 [KJV]. “I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy the children of Sheth.”
The word “star” is used here as a figure for the word “prince”: A Star rising out of Jacob, and a scepter rising out of Israel. A prince with a powerful scepter – the authority to rule. How would this be accomplished? The NASB puts this very, very strongly: by crushing through the forehead of Moab, and then tearing down all the sons of Sheth [or Seth, the third son of Adam].
Certainly this does not sound like the gentle Jesus, let alone a twinkling Star overlooking the Christ Child, then about the age of 2! But perhaps we can find some spiritual meaning in these words that sound more like war than Love Incarnate.
Moab may have referred to the territory and the descendants of the incestuous son of Lot. Sheth or Seth, the third son of Adam means “tumult” – implying a confused, loud, noisy, and disordered mass of people. If we were to consider these in terms of spiritual meaning and spiritual warfare, it points to the Prince of Peace Whose scepter of the righteousness of God would put an end to wickedness and to the tumult of the disordered reality we face each day, through His redemption and the plan of salvation within the direction of His Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The Light of God Himself, this peculiar princely Star, was to come into the confused mass of the world with all its unruliness, and by its rising and shining put an end to all spiritual darkness, fear, confusion, and ultimately death. John 1: 4,5 – “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not”.
In other words, the darkness would never be able to overpower it! Once that Star shines with the Light of its reality and its full truth, it’s endgame for the state of brokenness and confusion that so greatly characterizes this reality.
God be praised for this Shining Star, the Sun of Righteousness!
